TCM Bike Rules

Safety is our #1 priority so:

  1. No helmet, no ride
  2. No MP3 players
  3. Obey all road rules

All rides have a 10 minute departure rule i.e. we leave 10 minutes after the stated start time, most rides are no drop or feature regular regrouping and having fun is compulsory.

Favorite Local Rides

Marin is blessed with some great road rides. Here are a few of our favorites (distances from Fairfax):

  1. Alpine Dam Loop – about 25 miles, hilly but scenic taking you over the 7 Sisters
  2. Pt Reyes Station – about 35 miles, rolling hills, redwood forests, great bakery stop!
  3. Marshall Wall – 60 miles, big climb halfway in, views over Tomales Bay, challenging especially when the wind is up (as it usually is!)
  4. Cheese Factory – 40 miles, kind of a shortened Marshall Wall route but out & back
  5. Paradise Loop – 25 miles or so, great beginners loop around Tiburon, fairly easy
  6. China Camp – famed mountain bike area but also good for beginners, about 15 miles or so out & back

Cycling Tips

To improve your cycling, try these drills & workouts:

  • 1-leg cycling drills – spin for 30 secs using only 1 leg, try to even out the pedal stroke, repeat changing legs for 3 sets
  • Hill repeats – find a hill that takes 2-5 minutes to climb, stay seated and spin to get up, repeat until you’re toast!
  • Spin-ups – gradual increase RPMs to as fast as you can go without bouncing around for 30 secs. Focus on being smooth!

Distances / times are measured from San Anselmo.
