 Welcome

Say hello to our new format newsletter. Hopefully, you’ll like the new look and equally hopefully it won’t foul up your email! The new layout is the result of countless hours of design and redesign and multiple cups of coffee (fully caffeinated). Members are still invited to contribute to the newsletter and we welcome stories, including race reports, training tips, photos, and anything else that’s fit to print.

 It’s Race Season

And they’re off! The Democrats have had their first debate – no wait, wrong newsletter. No politics in this one and ideally no politicians in politics.

Some of our members have already been active – Mark has done 2 triathlons (including his very first), a ½ marathon and a 5k with his wife; Lisa has beaten into submission an Xterra, Phil has taken a short jog round the block and completed a 50-miler in Colorado and Marlene and Tim conquered Sea Otter. If I missed anyone that’s because you haven’t let me know!  Please send me your race reports and we’ll put them in future newsletters.

This weekend is a big triathlon weekend with the Wildflower festival down in Lake San Antonio (good luck to David, Tim, Marlene and anyone else racing) and Envirosports ½ Ironman and Sprint races at Lake Berryessa in Napa where the Club will be represented by Lisa and Andrew.

 Birthday Wishes

May is a busy month for birthdays (what was 9 months before May???). Felicitations to Danni, Ken, Michael, Phil, Jim and Bill.

Do we have enough candles to go around?

 Training Tips

This week’s advice comes from 2005 IM World Champion, Faris Al-Sultan, who says:

“Train for a triathlon, not just swim, bike and run. The bike to run transition has to be exercised over and over again to fix mistakes. Instead of cycling for 2 hours, it is better to ride 1:30 and run for 30 minutes. A lot of athletes don’t use their full potential on the run due to the time they use adapting from bike to run.”
