2007 Recap

As the curtain comes down on yet another year (where does the time go??) we thought we’d do a little recap of everything that happened during the year.

We started off by welcoming new Board members – Danni (President), Andrew (Treasurer) and Lisa B (Swim lead) and bid farewell to join outgoing Presidents, Alexander & Renee (Renee was also Treasurer). A big thanks to them for their work in ’06.

Our first big development was having Tam Bank allow us to use their facilities for meetings and speaker events. A big thanks to Gisele, Jane and their staff in San Anselmo for their help.

We finalized the design, developed by Alexander & Dave, of the new TCM kits. These were made by Louis Garneau and have had a great reception from members and when seen at races. These are cool looking kits and function really well. A limited stock is still available for purchase at Fleet Feet in San Anselmo.

On the speaker side we were treated to presentations from Dusty on Strength training, Marvin on training the mind and Ken on the delights (??) of adventure racing. Our thanks to them for their time and highly informative presentations. There was a DVD presentation of Lane Lines to Shore Lines for all the budding Alcatraz swimmers which provided a lot of helpful tips. Look for more speakers and events in 2008!

Socially we were active too with events at Noonans, Tam Wine Cellars, SR Bowl and the end of year party.

2007 also saw the debut of Vineman Showdown at Sundown at China Camp/McNears beach arranged by our very own Mike B. This was a huge success with competitors from all over the State. Look for it to be even bigger in 2008 with Tri Club Marin being the co-host of the event – sure to generate significant exposure for the Club.

Club members were active in a lot of events during the year from Wildflower to Alcatraz to Vineman and multiple running, adventure racing and other distance and endurance events. Congratulations to all members in their efforts and best wishes for everyones’ racing and training for 2008.

Once again the Club is thankful to all its fantastic sponsors: Marin Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Fleet Feet San Anselmo, Sport & Spine Therapy of Marin and Paradigm Cycles. We are also proud to partner with: Whole Athlete, Nicole Taylor Massage, Hanson Chiropratic, SBR Multisports and Mike’s Bikes. When you need something, think of these businesses first.

Looking ahead to 2008, we have a strong Board in place and, as mentioned, will co-host the 2nd Showdown at Sundown. We are also planning to survey our past & present members to get a better handle on what you guys want – it’s your Club after all. We also plan to have a beginners training program available on-line, free to members, more activities – social & informational, more workouts and make improvements to the website. There’s a lot to do and any and all assistance would be gratefully accepted.

On behalf of the Board, please have a happy and safe holiday season and best wishes for 2008.

We are always looking for suggestions/content for the newsletter. If you have any ideas, links, articles you want to contribute email me at: seacap@netscape.com before Thursday.
